1. Hard drive failureHDD Error
What you'll see: Clicking or grinding sounds, "HDD Error" warnings, recordings with corrupt or missing segments, or a recorder that hangs on boot.
Why it happens: Age and wear, heat in closed cabinets, power surges, or a desktop-grade drive doing a surveillance job.
How we fix it: We run manufacturer diagnostics, recover what the drive still allows, and fit a correctly sized surveillance-grade replacement — then verify days of clean recording, not minutes.
2. Footage overwritten too quickly
What you'll see: The event you need has already been recorded over — retention is only a few days.
Why it happens: A drive too small for the camera count and resolution, recording at maximum bitrate unnecessarily, or continuous recording where smart/motion recording would do.
How we fix it: We rebalance bitrate and recording modes, and size additional or replacement storage to hit the retention target you choose — stated in days, in writing.

3. Insufficient storage
What you'll see: Adding cameras or moving to 4K collapsed your retention; the recorder warns about capacity.
Why it happens: Storage sized for the original system, not the system as it grew.
How we fix it: Retention recalculated for the current camera set; drive upgraded or a second bay populated. Where the recorder is the limit, we say so before you spend on drives.
4. Corrupted recordings
What you'll see: Playback stutters, blocks of grey artefacts, files that refuse to export or open.
Why it happens: A dying drive, power cuts mid-write without a UPS, or firmware faults in the recorder.
How we fix it: Drive health testing first — corruption is usually the drive's early warning. We repair the cause, then fix the export workflow so evidence copies play anywhere.
